Sunset Mule
Sunset Mule is a citrus, fruity and spiced cocktail made with Vodka, with moderate flavor complexity.
Ingredients
- 60 ml vodka
- 45 ml fresh orange juice
- 15 ml fresh lime juice
- 15 ml grenadine syrup
- 60 ml ginger beer
- Ice
- Lime wedge
Method
- Fill a rocks glass of about 360 ml (or a copper mug) with ice.
- Pour the vodka first — it is less dense and lets the other ingredients mix in better.
- Add the lime juice and orange juice. Stir lightly just to even out the color.
- Pour the grenadine syrup down the side of the glass so it sinks and forms the gradient.
- Top with chilled ginger beer. Don't stir if you want to keep the sunset.
- Garnish with the lime wedge.

What is the bartender tip for a Sunset Mule?
It's a Moscow Mule with orange juice and grenadine for the gradient. Build it in the glass: vodka first, citrus in the middle, grenadine down the side, and ginger beer last. The 45 ml of fresh orange is the body; boxed juice makes the drink flat. 15 ml of grenadine really sweetens — more than the 10 ml in the Tequila Sunrise, which is just for color. Don't stir after the grenadine or the gradient disappears; when it's time to drink, one turn mixes in the ginger. Ginger beer, not ginger ale. A highball with ice to the brim works too. The catalog already has the classic Moscow Mule (no orange) and the Tequila Sunrise (no ginger beer).
